Google Maps, how does it calculate the car speed?

If I check an itinerary on Google Maps, calculating the distance between two cities, I get 3 hours, but when I do it it takes me like... between 2 hours and 2 hours � (most of the route is on an highway). On Google Maps, when they calculate, what speed do they consider you would be going?
